CELEBRITY MASTERCHEF 2016 IS ALEXIS CONRAN
ALEXIS CONRAN CLAIMS THE 2016 CELEBRITY MASTERCHEF CROWN
Alexis Conran is the winner of Celebrity MasterChef 2016
After four weeks of heats, two weeks of gruelling semi-finals and finals, and an incredibly tense final cook off, Alexis Conran has beaten 19 other celebrities to be awarded his trophy by judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
TV Hustler and Actor Alexis Conran said: “I can’t believe it, I have been working up to this for so long, for this one moment. I am so very happy and relieved my family are going to be so proud.”
He added: “I was very happy with ‘finalist’ but I’ll take ‘champion’, ‘champion’ sounds great.”
Gregg Wallace said: “Alexis is a very, very worthy Celebrity MasterChef winner. Aligning that wonderful presentation with his Greek heritage has resulted in some of the best food I have ever seen in this competition.”
Speaking on the final John Torode said: “Regardless of whether you and I (Gregg) agreed on them, Alexis’s dishes looked amazing. His food has become sophisticated, exciting – it is just fantastic to eat. I loved it.”
Throughout the final week Alexis alongside other finalists, Louise Minchin and Jimmy Osmond, had to draw on everything he had learned over the course of the competition, and cook to the very highest of standards to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
The challenges have included: surviving John Torode’s highly complex Palate Test; producing a two-course menu for the infamous restaurant critics; and one of the toughest and most daunting challenges of the competition - The Chef’s Table. This saw the competitors cook a Michelin standard three-course meal hosted by Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar, for some of the best culinary talent in British kitchens including Cyrus Todiwala OBE, Alyn Williams, Sabrina Ghayour, Romy Gill MBE and Ed Baines.
The final task was to cook and present a faultless three-course meal for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace in two-and-a-half hours. Alexis drew on his Greek background and influences to produce a starter of Octopus Stifado with fava, whilst John and Gregg were divided on the taste of the dish they were able to agree on the technical flair and skill used to cook the dish. His main dish of Stuffed Chicken Leg with feta curd, baby globe artichokes, peas and beetroot was described by the judges as exquisite. He finished the round with a marvellous Nut Filo Pastry Pin Wheels with yoghurt mixed with condensed milk and fig.
Speaking about Alexis’s exquisite chicken dish Gregg Wallace said: “It is one of the best dishes I have tasted in a long, long time. I was blown away by the skill he showed. Alexis hit heights that I didn’t think were possible in Celebrity MasterChef. I think the guy is incredible.”
On his MasterChef journey Alexis said: “The key for the final for me was cooking from the heart as that is what cooking is all about.”
Alexis follows in the footsteps of previous winners Kimberly Wyatt, Sophie Thompson, Ade Edmondson, Emma Kennedy, Phil Vickery, Lisa Faulkner, Jayne Middlemiss, Liz McClarnon, Nadia Sawalha and Matt Dawson.
